Program Outline

DC Music Academy Outreach Band Program provides an opportunity for elementary, middle and high school students to learn band instruments and improve their individual musical skills and ensemble skills while having a great quality time making music together with school friends. Students develop a sense of artistry, musicianship, and discipline through musical preparation and performance. The school year-long Band Program concludes with a memorable trip and a performance at one of the amusement parks such as Busch Gardens or Hershey Park.

Beginner Band (4-5 grades and up)

Students learn the basics techniques for band instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, tuba, French horn, bassoon, oboe, percussion) and practice beginning ensemble skills playing together in a small band.

Advanced Band A (6-8 grades and experienced 4-5 grades)

Advanced Band B (9-12 grades and experienced 6-8 grades)

Students continue to improve techniques for band instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, tuba, French horn, bassoon, oboe, percussion) and learn diverse repertoire playing together as a school band.

MATERIALS & PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS:

Students will need their working instrument and cleaning accessories, music book, assigned sheet music, a pencil, and any other assigned materials on a weekly basis.
